Return of a Le Mans 24 winner to the grid!

18 November 2022

There will be a team of familiar faces returning to the grid for the upcoming Brands Hatch Indy KA 500, as the winners of the inaugural event are set to try and replicate their success this weekend in Kent!

Now racing under the team name ‘NAPA Racing UK’, Nick Tandy, Lewis Selby and Elliot Mason are all keen to add a second Indy KA 500 winners trophy to their collection. The trio, together with James Rhodes, triumphed the event in 2019 – after an astounding 430 laps! The team brings a high racing pedigree to the paddock, with driver Nick Tandy in particular boasting an incredible racing CV. Not content with just championing the prestigious Indy KA 500, Tandy has also managed the impressive feat of winning: the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Spa, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the 24 hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring (three times!).

EnduroKA had the pleasure of catching up with Nick to get his thoughts ahead of his return to the series;

‘As a group of friends, we love racing and EnduroKA enables us to do that as a team together. I was originally drawn to the series primarily so that we could all share a car together, but also because I’m a bit of a Ford man and that the rules and regulations remind me a lot of my stock car days when you had to make the most out of not a lot of options!

This year it will be 3/4 of our original 2019 crew, Elliot Mason, Lewis Selby and myself. Unfortunately James Rhodes is busy on work and won’t be able to join us again.

We missed the 500 in 2020 as I was working away in America but I like the event as it reminds me a lot of the FF Festival weekends we used to race at Brands. I love the circuit, it’s in my off season and it’s really the only race I do now in the UK that my children can drive down with me to watch. We’d like to do more events during the year together as a team of buddies but, as it’s my car, my schedule normally dictates things!

We will enter this year under the NAPA Racing UK banner. My race team JTR has started a wonderful relationship with NAPA through our Porsche Carrera Cup team and Lewis had been part of this story also. So it makes sense to say thank you for that partnership with an end of season event we can all enjoy.’

Bring on Brands Hatch!
