It's time for our first Team TracKA of 2023!
This is the short interview series where we get to know the teams that make the EnduroKA grid better, through a series of questions and a quick 'This or That' game.
Up next to field EnduroKA’s burning questions is David Bywater – owner of KA #49.
Interview:
- Can you introduce yourself and your team to EnduroKA?
My name is David Bywater, and I own car #49 which is run by LDR Performance Tuning. I have a two regular teammates (Andy Grear-Hardy and Nick Rice) who typically do three rounds a year with me, and other drivers fill the seats for the rest of the races. Between us we managed two top ten finishes last year, which I’m really proud of. I’m always looking for drivers!
We share the garage with #18 (Axiametrics, and that brought a new dynamic to last season. Having a race-winning team alongside has helped us improve.
- What originally drew you to race in the series?
I’d gone to support a friend who was running a new car at Donington Park in 2018, and a flyer for the series was left on the table in the lorry. It planted an ideas that I kept coming back to, so I went to see the second ever round at Snetterton. The paddock was a friendly place and there were a lot of novice crosses on the cars, and I decided to join the series doing arrive-and-drive with LDR. The following month I was qualifying at Oulton Park.
- What would your advice be to someone looking to try out the series for the first time?
Go on to the website (enduroka.co.uk/arriveanddrive) and call one of the teams listed. Do a race with arrive-and-drive and you can see how it’s all done, especially the pit-stops. If you want to run your own car but don’t have the time/space/skill to build one, a team can build one for you, or pre-raced cars are available for sale on the series Facebook page. We all want to encourage more competitors into the series, so if you need help just ask.
- What’s your favourite memory from EnduroKA?
Two of us on either side of a back-marker through Bomb-hole at Snetterton. I had the inside line.....
- What are you looking forward to most about EnduroKA in 2023?
Improving my racing technique. I still have a lot to learn.
This or That:
- BTCC or Formula 1? BTCC. I go to a few rounds each season.
- Cadwell Park or Oulton Park? By the finest margin, Cadwell Park. I’m due some better luck there, though!
- NC500 or Route 66? NC500. More corners (probably).
- Pole position or Dagenham Dustbin? I’m very fond of my two Dagenham Dustbins (for the KatMobile), but I’d love a Pole position.
- Jaffa Cake – Cake or Biscuit? Cake. They go hard if left long enough to go stale. Biscuits are the other way around.
